What you get

Crop insurance for just 1.5–5% premium

  • Farmer pays only 2% premium for Kharif crops, 1.5% for Rabi crops and 5% for commercial / horticulture crops; the government pays the rest.
  • Covers yield loss from natural calamities, pests and diseases.
  • Also covers prevented sowing and some post-harvest and local losses (hailstorm, landslide, flooding).

👤 Who can apply

  • All farmers growing notified crops in notified areas, including tenant farmers and sharecroppers.
  • Joining is voluntary for all farmers.
  • You must enrol before the cut-off date for each season.

📄 Documents needed

  • Aadhaar card
  • Land record, or tenancy / sharecropping agreement
  • Bank passbook
  • Sowing certificate (if asked by the state)

📝 How to apply

  • Apply through your bank (if you have a crop loan it may be automatic), a CSC, the insurance company, or pmfby.gov.in.
  • Choose the crop and area, and pay your share of the premium.
  • Keep the receipt with the policy number.

How to apply, step by step

  1. Apply through your bank (if you have a crop loan it may be automatic), a CSC, the insurance company, or pmfby.gov.in.
  2. Choose the crop and area, and pay your share of the premium.
  3. Keep the receipt with the policy number.
  4. Report crop loss within 72 hours on the Crop Insurance app, helpline 14447 or to your bank / agriculture office.
